MODIPLANT methodology for the realization of technologies in downstream process, that maximize the use of RES electrical energy, instead of fossil fuel (Natural Gas), consists in:
- selection and installation of induction furnace at Marcegaglia;
- realization of full-scale plant for conduction heating of billets in Feralpi Siderurgica;
- research activities to supporting the implementation of such technologies;
- techno-economic assessment of technologies, scenario analysis, business cases definition.
The activities will be carried out in parallel on the two industrial sites, Marcegaglia and Feralpi Siderurgica. Each industrial application follows a preliminary phase of choice and contractualization of renewable energy supplies, design and research activities, installation and trial campaigns, and techno-economic evaluation.
L-GIT's strain dilatometer will be used to characterise the selected materials.
L-GIT's Gleeble thermal-mechanical simulator for physical process simulation.
The RINA-CSM pilot line at Terni (Italy).
This line is equipped with an Ultra Rapid Annealing (URA) treatment system.
Different heat treatments, simulating the industrial processes, can be performed through magnetic induction.
